Tejo Remy and Rene Veenhuizen has designed the Bamboestoel – a Dutch term for Bamboo chair – using one of nature’s more versatile and plentiful resources. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth making it a highly sustainable material to be used for building, furniture and plenty more. Instead of using regular wood, the artists chose bamboo for this chair design because of its flexible nature. The strips of bamboo are soft enough to bend slightly while someone is sitting in the chair, resulting in a comfortable seat that slightly adjusts to the body of the user. On the other hand, this same flexible material is known for its incredible strength and durability. If you think about it, bamboo is kind of a super material that can handle tension and pressure, and yet it’s soft and flexible enough to be used in applications like this one. We love the unique design behind this limited edition chair that looks more like a sculptural work of art than a mere furnishing.
