Christmas may be over for 2011, but it’s coming again in 2012 whether you’re ready or not, so we thought we’d share this fun project with you a little earlier than expected. Designer and artist Anthony Schmitt has designed a towering tree (which, let’s face it, is a Christmas tree) using various sizes of shopping carts. The tree is meant to symbolize generosity and abundance and is intended to acknowledge less fortunate individuals whose entire worldly possessions fit into a single shopping cart. This tree was commissioned in 2010 by Abby Sher, the former owner and developer of Edgemer. The Colwell and Belden families has continued the annual tradition of commissioning the building of the shopping cart tree since 2007 when they purchased Edgemer. In 2009, the shopping cart tree features 86 carts, but the quantity varies per year.
