You never have to worry about burning your tongue on hot beverages again thanks to the smart folks over at Smart Lid. The Smart Lid, put quite simply, uses colour changing technology to indicate when your coffee or tea is safe enough to drink. A very hot beverage will result in the disposable lid appearing to be a bright red colour – a colour that most people have come to associate with Stop Signs (and other signage that indicates danger). Once your drink is cold (or not-too-hot), the lid will turn a darker burgundy colour – an indication that it’s time to drink up.
There are some factors that can prevent the effectiveness of the Smart Lid, including an incorrect application of the lid onto your favourite reusable or disposable coffee cup. If the lid is properly fastened, the rim will show a consistent burgundy colour all around – any breaks in colour will let you know that the lid is not securely fastened (steam is escaping). If the lid is entirely bright red, you know that the beverage is very, very hot (above 120*F or 48*C) and not safe to drink.
Other smart Lid colours (green and white) are currently in development.
This product could change the Take Out Hospitality market…it’s definitely worth of a deep resounding, “WHOA!”.
