Backyard fire pits would be so much more exciting if everyone used the Third Rock Earth design by Fire Pit Art. USA-based Fire Pit Art is a company that produces creative heavy duty fire pits for residential and commercial use (including custom designs). The Third Rock design features a large orb with negative cut outs of the Earth’s lands, while the two thirds of water space is depicted in steel. At first glance, we thought the designers were trying to comment on the self-destructive nature of the Earth inhabitants, but upon second observation (and confirmation from the artists themselves), when afire, the orb represents the Earth’s incredibly beautiful fiery inner core. The orb is constructed out of heavy duty ¼” thick mild carbon steel and the inner bowl has a temperature consistent coating that comes with a 1.5″ diameter rain drain. The outer iron oxide patina is maintenance-free and the fire pit can be left outside in all weather conditions. The orb weighs 275 lbs, measures 36″ in diameter and 40″ in height – a large work of art that will bring pride to any yard. This particular design comes to Fire Pit Art courtesy of artist Rick Wittrig, and each orb comes with a named brass plaque in honour of the artist.
