It’s about time someone took advantage of the sun’s free solar rays and developed a charger for electronic gadgets – thank you goes out to the brains behind the Ray prototype for this wonderful gadget design. The charger comes with a strong suction cup that can be used on any glass surface, including windshields as well as car and airplane windows, to collect solar energy and transmit it to the device that is plugged into the Ray via USB adapter port. Charging your cell phone on a long flight is easy and not at all disruptive (if the cell phone remains turned off), but you can also charge your iPod while sitting at your desk in the office, as long as you have a little patch of sunlight that will hit the Ray’s solar panel surface. The battery stores enough power to fully charge a mobile phone (although compatible models are not yet known).
The Ray comes with an LED indicator light to show the status of the battery life, suction cups and a kickstand. The Ray is still in production, but Quirky is currently accepting pre-orders online for a special pre-sale price of $39.99.
