The first Leica prototypes were built in 1913 and intended to be used as compact camera for landscape cinema 35mm film. Unlike other compact cameras of the time, the Leica transported film horizontally, extending the frame size to 24 x 36mm, instead of the usual 18 x 24mm used by cinema cameras which transported the film vertically with a 2:3 aspect ratio. The Leica camera was revolutionary and remains a coveted piece of technology by photography buffs, but if you’ve already sunk all your funds into an iphone, this Leica skin is a decent consolation.
