These hilariously strange photos of astronauts committing suicide have left us baffled and curious. The collection entitled the “Astronaut Suicides” was photographed by Neil Dacosta, Art Direction credit goes to Sara Phillips and Saskia Thomson is responsible for the photo re-touching. The photos were inspired by the bittersweet closing of the NASA space shuttle program, begging the question of viewers, “What will the astronauts do now?”. In February 2010, President Barack Obama signaled the end of the shuttle program in order to “focus instead on radically new space technologies” – signaling the end of the shuttle program after the final launch and landing of the Atlantis space shuttle. On April 15, 2010, Obama stated, “I understand that some believe that we should return to the surface of the moon but I have to say this bluntly, we have been there before.” Too bad, such a sad end to an iconic era. Kudos go out to the creative team for marking the end of an era in a compelling and quirky way. The photographs were shot in Portland, Oregon and feature a space suit from a Hollywood prop house that supplies replica suits to the film industry.
