Do you have 1.5 million empty beer bottles hanging around and don’t know what to do with them? Well, today is your lucky day. Instead of sending the bottles to the recycling plant (which is what you should do), you can recycle them in your very own way by building a Buddhist temple just like Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew. The monks at this temple have taken recycling into their own hands and have now completed the building of one major temple and a shelter. They encourage locals to donate their empty glass bottles so that they can continue to build structures to expand the temple’s facilities in a way that reminds everyone of the importance of staying GREEN. And the best part? The monks are incredibly creative – they have made bottle cap mosaic works of art and have even noticed that the bottles make for an interesting interior wall treatment that plays with light and colour, won’t fade and is easy to clean. (And in case you’re wondering, the answer is NO, the monks did not consume the beer themselves – drinking is prohibited in Buddhist religion).
