CREEPY CROOKED FOREST

Located in north west Poland (not far from Szczecin) is a pine forest that looks like it came right out of a Hans Christian Andersen story. Around four hundred trees in the forest have been formed with a 90° horizontal bend in it’s trunk before rising vertically again. The trees are believed to be about eighty years old and although there is no explanation for this freak of nature one widely held belief is that the trees were shaped this way by human hands (possibly by carpenters wanting to use the wood for furniture making)

Could you inform us in what direction of the compass that the rounded upright trunk sections are positioned towards. i.e. facing north, south, east or west?

Reminds me of certain trees that you smoke, during lst training ;) . Looks like at one point these trees were tall and lanky, and a strong force caused them all to bend (or entirely break off) at the base and caused permanent damage. Usually, the base will grow a thick nub and grow in the direction it has been bent and overcorrect vertically, just like these trees. Growers do this so the tree will rely on the other branches to grow faster while it attempts to fix itself, thus producing more fruits.

Would have had to have been saplings at the time they were bent. I don’t buy into the “deliberate” means for woodworking. I mean, 80 years and the wood is still not mature. Who could/would wait that long? I will guess that an intense hurricane-like storm bent the saplings.

They are not quite 80 years old. They were flattened by a Panzer tank division when they were saplings, most likely in the winter when the ground was hard.
