Crazy Cool Portraits Made From Phone Books

Cuban-born artist, Alex Queral, has a self-proclaimed fascination with heads. Yup. His words, not ours, and as strange as this fascination may be, we are thankful for it because it has resulted in the creation of these amazing 3D portrait works of art starring soem our fav faces like Sammy Davis Jr, Clint Eastwood, Pee Wee Herman and John Goodman. Queral uses a very sharp knife to carve the faces as the negative space of the pages of the phone books are carefully peeled away to reveal the portrait that remains. Queral then uses acrylic to paint in facial details and enhance the depth of the imagery. The phone book is coated in clear acrylic once completed, to ensure the individual pages that make up the sculpture will not shift and ruin the piece. We love zooming in to see the abstracted phone numbers in the background.
