Famous designer, Alexander McQueen, is known for pushing boundaries in the fashion world. Remember his 2010 spring collection featuring his newly designed 10-inch alien heels? They seem very clearly inspired by H.R. Giger’s film, “Alien”, and recently made their way back onto our radar. And yes, during the same collection release, the world was introduced to the hoof-heel – a shoe that Lady Gaga took to and featured in her “Bad Romance” music video.
McQueen’s fashion show was called “Plato’s Atlantis”, and the only thing equally as WHOA! as his shoes, was the sensual short film that opened the show. The film was created by Alexander McQueen, Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben and starred Raquel Zimmermann.
After McQueen’s spring 2010 fashion show in Paris, the company was being bombarded with phone calls from fashionists dying to get their hands on a pair of hoof shoes for themselves (some fans expressed interest in displaying the footwear as art, others wanted to strut their stuff in the funky new kicks). McQueen considered auctioning the shoes off for charity, but they otherwise were not for sale.
The fashion world suffered a great loss in February 2010 after the passing of Alexander McQueen.
